Who are we?

WiN Sweden is a part of WiN Europe and WiN Global.
WiN Sweden is a network of professionals working in nuclear and radiation-related areas.
WiN Sweden welcomed its 300th member in summer of 2011.
WiN Sweden aims to increase knowledge within the areas of:

  • Nuclear and nuclear safety
  • Nuclear energy - and its role in sustainable energy production
  • Radiation - benefits and risks
  • Nuclear and radioactive waste

We will achieve this by:

  • Communicating with the public in a factual, open and honest way.
  • Mentoring young people studying nuclear science.
  • Arranging meetings and seminars on nuclear and radiation-related topics.
  • Developing the knowledge of our members
  • Supporting our members through our national and global network of professionals.

Activities

Some of our activities are highlighted below.

  • Mentoring
The nuclear industry in Sweden needs to recruit over 5000 employees over the next 10 years. In 2010, WiN Sweden developed a mentorship scheme for twenty-one students at Uppsala University studying an undergraduate nuclear engineering programme. The mentorship scheme, which was a success and highly appreciated by the students and the nuclear industry, has continued with new students in autumn 2011.
  • Cooperation between WiN Sweden and WiN Germany
In cooperation with Vattenfall Sweden and Vattenfall Germany - WiN members at Vattenfall started a project aiming at exchanging experience on nuclear power communication. The project has now become an annual event and the 2011 meeting was held in Barsebäck, Sweden.
  • Cooperation between WiN Sweden and the Swedish Cancer Society
The Swedish Cancer Foundation has received help from WiN Sweden in preparing a tutorial about how radiation is used to diagnose and treat breast cancer

WiN Global Congress 2012

WiN Sweden is the proud host of the 20th WiN Global Congress in Kalmar, Sweden, in May 2012.
The theme of the congress is "Safety in the Nuclear Lifecycle. From Design to Disposal."
